"W & A Snyder, General Merchants" an original acrylic painting by Lance Russwurm
Here, I tried to depict that precise instant when the twentieth century first intruded on a horse-drawn world. A smoking. clattering automobile appears on the street of a small, quiet town. A horse shies and people stare as they get their first glimpse of the new-fangled contraption. No one dreams for a moment that what they see is the future. The backdrop is a block of buildings that still exist in St. Jacobs, Ontario. The car is a 1900 model LeRoy, of which some thirty examples were built in Berlin (Now Kitchener, Ontario) This picture was released as a limited edition print in 1989 under the title "First Encounter -1900" Photo album created with Web Album Generator |
