The Canadian Warplane Heritage Murals
This flying museum in Hamilton Ontario has a world class collection of warplanes used by Canadians. Dozens of them are maintained in flying condition. I was asked to do several murals above the restoration area where there were some big blank spaces on the cupboards holding spare parts. Also involved was a company specializing in digitally blowing up images to huge sizes. I did the murals to scale in my studio. They were painted on a 4 X 8 piece of hardboard. The longest of these were the full eight feet. They were blown up to eighty feet in length and were printed out and applied like wallpaper. The themes for the three murals were: "Fighters", "Bombers" and "Classic Jets". There are examples of all of these at the museum. I chose to portray mostly aircraft that would fit their mandate of Canadian Aircraft, but ones that are not in their collection. After all, you can see the real thing right there!
