The Mural incorporates various levels of the Girl Guide
organization, including, Sparks, Brownies, Guides, and Rangers. The characters
in the mural are engaged in two major activities in the mural, a cozy campfire
and a canoe trip in the great outdoors. The Mural emerged from the slogan of the
Girl Guides: "Start a friendship."

This
was my first mural. I probably never would have tried one, but the township had
a competition to do a design for this bare wall. I entered and won. I learned
many of the tricks and techniques I use to this day while doing this project.
Note how I incorporated the actual windows of the building into the scene. I
drew all the objects dead-on so that perspective would not cause problems with
viewing from any angle. Everything is life-size so passers-by can feel that they
are a part of the picture. It has proven to be a popular photo backdrop with
tourists for that reason.

The Riverwalk Mural
(2002)
Cambridge, Ontario -
since removed

This mural was an attempt to
make a warehouse type building look more like the retail shops that were
inside. I went for a "Paris street" theme.
I had a lot of fun with
trompe l'oeil details, especially my copies of famous posters from the original
Moulin Rouge.
