The Rainforest Mural DESIGN FOR A LARGE STAINED GLASS INSTALLATION (click to enlarge) I did this project many years ago for a friend who is in the stained glass business. She had a commission to do a large backlit mural in stained glass to surround a basement swimming pool -complete with real waterfalls. Someone else had done a design that turned out to be un-useable at the last minute. I must have been feeling bold, because I said I could re-do the whole thing from scratch in two days - in time for her scheduled presentation. By neglecting little things like sleep...I actually did it! The chosen theme was "the rainforest". It was in two parts - on either side of the waterfall. The whole thing is something like 60 feet wide - enormous for a Tiffany style stained glass work. I had to be aware of what shapes could be cut in glass so it would all work. One side depicts flora and fauna from the Asian rainforest (India, to be specific), the other side depicts the South American rain forest. Considering the time limits, I think it turned out rather well! I only did the full size design, the stained glass studio took many weeks to choose the colours and execute it in glass.
